Pastor George Scott
The Rev. George Scott is married to Donna Scott and is the father of Alexandra (24) and Nicholas (21). He lives in Dillsburg, Pa., and graduated in May 2013 with a Master of Divinity degree from the United Lutheran Seminary (previously the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg). From 2013-2019, he served as the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in East Berlin, Pa., and was interim pastor at St. John (Barner’s) Lutheran Church in Liverpool, Pa. for part of 2020.
Pastor George was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Col. Fred W. Scott and Mrs. Betty M. Scott. The Scott family—Fred, Betty, brother Bill, his late sister Susan, and George—moved to a farm near Littlestown, Pa., after Fred retired from the U.S. Army in 1966. George graduated from Littlestown High School in 1980 and from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1984. After commissioning as an Army officer, George served twenty years on active duty in a variety of posts around the world, including Korea, Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Jordan, and the Presidio of Monterey, filling both command and staff positions as a Military Intelligence Officer and Middle East Foreign Area Officer.
After retiring from the Army in 2004, George lived in northern Virginia for five years, working for both the federal government and in the private sector. Responding to God’s call to ministry, George entered seminary at Gettysburg in 2009, studying theology, pastoral care, preaching, worship, and other relevant topics. He also completed several field education assignments: as a Teaching Parish student at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Dillsburg; as a Chaplain at the Diakon Wilderness Center in Boiling Springs; as the Chaplain in the Park at Codorus State Park near Hanover; and as a Vicar at St. Peter’s Lutheran in Lancaster.
Pastor George’s passion for ministry stems from a rich variety of life experiences and a deep thankfulness for God’s accompaniment throughout life as well as the gifts given to us by Jesus Christ. George’s ministry skills include developing leaders, teaching, mission planning, preaching, worship leadership, evangelism, spiritual formation, and outdoor ministry.
Besides serving in ministry and spending time with his family, Pastor George enjoys sports, reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
